My Favorite (And Least Favorite) Denim Brands

My Favorite Denim Brands

It's been a long ride finding my favorite denim brand.

Since getting married, I have gone from underweight and sick-looking to a perfectly normal, healthy weight. I've gained about 20 pounds, but I'm not complaining because I needed it!

Howeverrrrr......

Weight gain means none of my clothes fit me. I've had to get rid of some of my favorite pieces, not to mention clothes I've spent good money on. I outgrew all my Madewell denim and spent the next year trying to find the perfect denim that fit well, didn't stretch too much, and would last a long time.

DENIM BRAND #1: GAP

My Favorite Denim Brands

I had never bought Gap jeans before (although I've tried them on a million times because GAP IS LIFE) because my legs were always too skinny for them to fit right. But since the Great Weight Gain of 2016, I thought they were worth trying again. To my surprise, they fit like a dream in the store! I also got them for like $40, which was way better than the $120 I spent on my Madewell jeans. Unfortunately, after just a couple of hours my perfectly fitting, midnight black, beautiful jeans were falling off my hips and sagging in the butt. They also collected lint like craaaazy (hence all the little fuzzies in the photo above...ugh). Needless to say I ditched these babies real fast.

DENIM BRAND #2: H&M

My Favorite Denim Brands

I used to work at H&M and I dread shopping there too much because it brings back too many memories of horrible late nights working retail. LOLOLOL. But, their jeans actually are alright for the cost. They don't normally stretch too badly but they are overall cheaply made and don't last long at all. I did go try on some H&M jeans but I ended up not buying them for that reason.

DENIM BRAND #3: LEVI STRAUSS

I went out on a limb and tried on some Levi Strauss denim for the first time ever. Clearly, I was desperate. At first glance these jeans are great. They're comfy, fit true to size, and they fit great just about everywhere but the ankles. The ankles are a little bit too flared on the skinny for my taste, so I thought I'd just sew them right up. Tacky, I know, but at this point I was desperate. So desperate that I bought two pairs. Levi's are inexpensive and now I know why. They stretched. The seam twisted the first time I washed them. They aren't as comfy as I remember in the store. Skip those.

DENIM BRAND #4: CITIZENS OF HUMANITY

My Favorite Denim Brands

Okay. Let's just clear the air. I would never, ever buy $200 jeans never having tried them before. Lucky for me, I scored some Citizens of Humanity denim at a thrift store. They just happened to be $9 and they just happened to fit me absolutely perfectly. And they're so cute! Oh, darn. Anyway, I thought I'd buy them and try them since they were only $9. Turns out they were worth the pennies I paid for them. They are super comfy, but they have stretched since I got them. They are definitely high on my list of fave jeans and I'm super not mad about scoring them for $9.

DENIM BRAND #5: MADEWELL

I keep coming back to these babies. They are just perfect. Today, I squeezed my brand-new size 29 tush into a pair of size 26 Madewell jeans and they were still comfier than the Levi's or Citizen's of Humanity jeans. They are expensive (about $115-$130 depending on what you get), but totally worth the money. They are the perfect cropped length, they make a mid-rise fit which is my fave, and they don't sag in the butt! I would buy these jeans again and again. Madewell denim is hands-down the best.

My favorite Madewell denim pieces are these, these, + these. Go buy them.
