The Ultimate Guide To Easy Houseplants

If you're anything like me, you need easy houseplants that don't require much time or effort. Keeping plants alive is not my strong suit! I'm constantly over-watering, under-watering, or just plain forgetting to water the plants. We live in an apartment, so I'm also confined to things I can plant indoor. Thankfully, over the years, I've learned all about which indoor plants are easy-to-care for and which ones are finicky and hard to keep alive.

With the exception of air plants, I give all of my houseplants a nice drink every Sunday and I only water in-between if they're looking sad. I've learned that loving neglect is the best way to care for plants! If the first inch of soil is wet, LEAVE IT ALONE!

Now, on to some of my fave indoor plants.

EASY HOUSEPLANT #1: AIR PLANTS

The Ultimate Guide To Easy Houseplants

These are some of the best indoor plants because they are super unique looking and don't require being planted in dirt which makes them extra fun to display! I hung two air plants in a copper pipe and displayed them on my gallery wall.

To care for the plants, you can soak them in water for ten minutes once a week and spritz them with water throughout the week to keep them fresh and green!

EASY HOUSEPLANT #2: SUCCULENTS AND CACTI

My faves. These plants come in all different shapes and sizes. All of mine are small, but I really want a large cactus someday! I sometimes skip watering these pretty potted plants, especially cactuses. They definitely don't need a drink more than once every other week.

EASY HOUSEPLANT #3: DEVIL'S IVY, ALSO KNOWN AS POTHOS

The Ultimate Guide To Easy Houseplants

I love Devil's Ivy because it reproduces so fast. All you have to do is chop a little bit off the end of a vine and stick it in a glass of water.

After a week or so, the plant will grow roots! At this point, you can either plant it in soil to keep it growing or keep it in the glass.

I made a really simple version of a macrame planter and I have a couple of cute glass jars hanging in them like this.

If you do plant Devil's Ivy in a pot, one drink a week is more than enough.

EASY HOUSEPLANT #4: PALMS

Palms are so beautiful! Mine takes up a whole corner of our living room. I personally think our home is more "home-y" since we got our palm baby!

Most people think palms = hot weather and direct sunlight and that's not necessarily true! These tropical house plants do best without direct sunlight and only being watered once a week.

EASY HOUSEPLANT #5: SPIDER PLANTS

These guys are good house plants because they reproduce quickly and they are air purifying plants! I bought this plant baby on clearance at Wal-Mart. He was dying, but he just needed a good drink and a nice, loving home + he came right back to life!

I've been meaning to separate him and replant him in two pots, but for now, he's resting in the window opposite my palm. He gets a drink a week (and an extra one this week since a couple of his leaves are turning brown).

Fake it! My favorite and the best indoor houseplants I have are from Target! Here are some of my fake succulents. You have to look really close to figure out they aren't real. They look pretty at a distance and require no care whatsoever.
